The Role
 
The goal of this position is to protect the data, systems, services and users from accidental or malicious attack. The organisation is 12 months into a programme to improve our cyber security posture which is centred on embracing a Zero Trust approach to cyber security. In addition, the team updating our existing vulnerability management platform and web application testing capabilities.
We are a large and complex organisation which is distributed across six major locations. There are some 50,000+ systems on the network.
The successful candidate will join a team whose stated goal is that Security should be a technology enabler, to access all their data and services quickly, safely and securely from any location at any time to facilitate world leading teaching and research.
As part of this growing team, you will need to run and deliver a programme of activities relating to improving the cyber security capabilities within the organisation.

Duties and responsibilities
 
  • Manages and leads technical change delivery using an agreed methodology with full responsibility for meeting allocated technical and/or project/supervisory objectives, establishing milestones and assigning tasks and/or responsibilities as required.
  • Manages resources across product lines, Product Development teams and supporting functions, demonstrating a good technical understanding of the projects being undertaken and the skills and capacity of the resources available.
  • Responsible for taking decisions which impact the success of assigned work, i.e. results, deadlines and budget. Has significant influence over the allocation and management of resources appropriate to given assignments. 
  • Monitors overall progress, highlighting risks and taking appropriate action to ensure timelines, budgets and deliverables are kept on track, leading on user/customer collaboration throughout all stages of work and ensuring users’ needs are met consistently through each work stage.
  • Proactively ensures security is appropriately addressed within their area by self and others. Engages or works with security specialists as necessary. Contributes to the security culture of the organisation.
 
Essential requirements
 
  • Experience working in IT as a Technology Delivery Manager or Project Manager within a large organisation, applying subject matter expertise within specific business operations domains and / or Higher Education to deliver technology change
  • Experience of managing development and innovation utilising Agile or iterative project techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience of engaging with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Extensive experience of leading and driving business initiatives across an organisation, including experience of working with others to deliver effectively. 
  • Knowledge of a broad range of current and evolving IT Technologies, architectures, and delivery models.
  • Degree or equivalent, a technical qualification or comparable experience.
