Tonight’s topic

The Autonomous Enterprise: Who Is in Control When AI Starts Acting?
AI has moved from answering questions to taking actions inside the enterprise. Agents now query data, change configurations, approve workflows and touch production systems, often faster than security teams can see or govern them, and attackers are using the same tools to compress weeks of work into hours. This evening will explore what it takes to run a business safely when a growing share of activity is performed by machines rather than people. We will look at the problem across three moments: governing what AI agents are allowed to do before they act, detecting and investigating threats across data that is too large and too scattered to centralise, and proving the business can recover when something does go wrong. The discussion will be practitioner-led and candid, drawing on what security leaders are seeing today, where current tools and operating models are breaking, and which decisions CISOs need to make in the next 12 to 18 months to adopt AI at scale without losing control of it.

About our speaker

Pete Chronis, Operating Partner, Cyberstarts
Pete Chronis will open the evening with a view from both sides of the table: as a four-time enterprise CISO at Paramount Global, WarnerMedia, Turner Broadcasting and EarthLink, and now as Operating Partner at Cyberstarts, where he works with founders building the next generation of security companies. Pete will set out why AI is forcing the biggest shift in the security operating model in two decades. Agents are acting on behalf of employees with permissions no one fully mapped, security data has outgrown the tools built to hold it, and recovery plans written for yesterday's infrastructure are failing quietly until the day they are needed. He will walk through the three control points where CISOs are under the most pressure (governing what AI is allowed to do, detecting and investigating threats across scattered data, and proving the business can recover), share what he is hearing from the Cyberstarts CISO advisory community, and explain how companies such as Onyx, Vega and Gambit were built from day one around these problems rather than retrofitted to them.

About our sponsor
Cyberstarts Logo 2025
Founded in 2018 by investor Gili Raanan, Cyberstarts makes high-conviction bets at the earliest stage of company formation, identifying founders before they have a product and pairing them with an advisory network of CISOs. The firm has over $1.4 billion in total capital commitments across seven funds, and was a seed investor in Wiz, Fireblocks and Cyera, with a portfolio that represents nearly 50% of the global market cap of private cybersecurity companies. Wiz, backed by Cyberstarts in 2020, agreed to be acquired by Google for $32 billion.
Vega and Onyx are two of the firm's newest category builders. Vega was founded in 2024 by CEO Shay Sandler and CTO Eli Rozen, veterans of Unit 8200 and Granulate. Its AI-native security analytics platform runs detection where data already lives, across cloud services, data lakes and existing storage, so security teams no longer need to centralise everything in a SIEM first. Cyberstarts was its first seed investor, and an Accel-led Series B brought total funding to $185 million at roughly a $700 million valuation. Onyx Security, founded in 2024 by Maxim Bar Kogan and Gil Elbaz, gives enterprises a control plane for AI agents, managing permissions, monitoring agent activity and governing agents whether built internally or sourced from third parties. Cyberstarts led its seed round, and a Bessemer-led $113 million Series B in July 2026 valued the company at a reported $640 million. Onyx now has more than 80 employees across Israel, the US and Canada and works with several Fortune 500 companies.
Gambit Security addresses what happens when prevention fails. Its AI-native resilience platform connects to environments, security tools and backup systems to autonomously map infrastructure and backup data, surfacing gaps that break static recovery plans. Across the enterprise environments it analysed, only about 5% of systems were resilient against ransomware, despite extensive backup and security coverage. Cyberstarts provided Gambit's seed funding, and the company emerged from stealth with $61 million in seed and Series A funding from Spark Capital, Kleiner Perkins and Cyberstarts.
